Almost a decade ago I sold my E30 M for an E36 M. Why? It’s a better car. It doesn’t look at cool, it’s not collectible, but it’s the best M-value on the market.

I loved my 97 so much that when I sold it, I bought another (95).

I went with Stromung for my exhaust. And we have the same Style 24 wheels! (mine are 8.5" squared, as opposed to the staggered)

Good little review, and I agree on everything you said.

One note though: your specific car got the stripes on the headrests because BMW had a leather supply problem which forced them to use less good quality stuff on a short few cars in ‘97. Normally, the stripes are on the seat back on both the sport seat (which you have) and the “vaders” style seat from the coupes.

So yours is rare, yeah, but in an infamous manner.

Really? I had no idea, although, the M-stripes look great!

Is the maintence on these acceptable levels for a DD or not so much?

Yep. That’s why yours is different from other sedans with the stripes on the back

Definitely good daily-drivers. Parts are so cheap. Don’t be afraid!

I’m glad you like your E36. IMHO, four-door M3s are best M3s...

Just because I’m curious, and if you don’t mind sharing, what did you sell your E30 for ten years ago, and what do you think it would have sold for today?

Sold it for 10k. Had 100k miles. Kicker was, I bought it for 7k with 80k miles!

Well done! I’m sure the E36s will appreciate before long, too. Especially the sedans - as you know, they’re pretty rare!

I think so. Approx. 7k total production (sedan), half of which were auto’s. In other words, there are less m3/4/5's than E30 M’s!

There are 3,135 E90 M3s with a manual, like mine, in North America. =)
